John Crane Ireland Ltd. Celebrating 40 Years in Shannon

Global leader in engineered technology John Crane Ireland has this week marked a milestone anniversary as it celebrates 40 years since it planted roots in the Shannon.
The long-established company, which produces industrial sealing applications, currently employs over 90 workers at the Shannon Free Zone, with an average length of service exceeding 20 years.

Speaking as the company celebrated its 40th anniversary, John Crane Ireland, Plant Manager Chris Milici said that this depth of experience has enabled the company to reach and remain at the forefront of edge welded metal bellows product development and manufacturing on the world stage.

To mark John Crane Ireland’s 40 year investment and employment in Shannon, and its ongoing commitment to the area, Shannon Group plc made a presentation of Co. Clare bog oak to the company.

“The leadership teams of Smiths Group and John Crane, as am I, are proud of the achievements and consistent performance of our Shannon factory,” said Mr Milici.
“The levels of expertise, commitment, and dedication are second-to-none, and we look forward to building on our heritage as we grow the business to new heights.”
Congratulating the company on its 40th anniversary, Ray O’Driscoll, Managing Director, Shannon Commercial properties, part of the Shannon Group plc, said, “By any standards, 40 years is a very considerable commitment by a company to a location. It speaks volumes not just about the standards delivered week in week out by the company but also its loyalty to the area. John Crane has delivered very significantly to local employment and the local economy and we look forward to their continued presence here in the years ahead.”

John Crane Ireland planted roots in the Shannon Free Zone when it opened a new facility in September of 1974. The company, then called Sealol, employed five people initially as it produced a single product line at a 2,500 sq. ft. facility in Shannon.

By 1977, with the workforce now at 20 employees, it relocated to a larger base. Finally, with further expansion, in 1982 the then 45 employees re-located operations to the current site within the Shannon Free Zone, comprising 40,000 sq. ft.

The company is also certified to ISO 9001 (quality management system), OHSAS 18001 (safety management system), ISO 14001 (environmental management system) and most recently ISO 50001 (energy management system).

John Crane Ireland’s welding capability and quality is unmatched and has led to the company’s status as a Centre of Excellence for welded metal bellows products within John Crane.
The Shannon facility ships product to over 75 customers in 38 countries around the world. The products are used in various industrial sealing applications, including oil extraction, refining, refrigeration and cryogenics. The seals are essential in demanding high and low temperature applications.
