The Shannon Region is boarded by two major Irish cities, Limerick and Galway. Running through the heart of the region is the majestic River Shannon. Flowing through counties Offaly, Tipperary, Clare and Limerick before meeting the Atlantic Ocean in Kerry. The river forms a distinct corridor and defines the character of the area.
There are about 340,000 people living here and the economy is based mainly around Limerick and Shannon. The major economic drivers are the Shannon Free Zone, Shannon Airport, Shannon Foynes Port Company, tourism, National Technology Park and major educational institutions such as the University of Limerick, Limerick Institute of Technology, NUIG, GMIT, Institute Technology, Tralee.
Shannon Airport serves the Shannon Region with a wide range of flights to Britain, continental Europe and transatlantic flights to the USA. It is the only airport in the West of Ireland with direct flights serving UK, Europe and the US. The M7 is a high quality motorway connecting Dublin and Limerick.
